My Shadow & Me

Wherever I go
there you are
going too.

Through thick
and through thin
Up highs
and down lows
You stick to my heels
crawl under my nose.

When I jump
for joy
you soar
along with me
to land
on the same star.

When I fall
into a slump
you slide
down the miles
to the bottom
of the world.

When I cry my heart out
you catch every teardrop
until our feet swim
in the same puddle.

Whether I roar
or whisper
you hear every sound
…and echooooooooooo.

Unless you’re the one sounding off
and I’m the one listening
as you tug on my imagination.

Maybe I’m a monkey
swinging from a tree.
Or a frog
leaping lily pads.
Maybe I’m a boulder
rolling down a mountain.
Or a plane
taking to the sky.

However I wave
you always wave back.

Skating along walls
slinking down corridors
sneaking around corners
squeezing through doorways
slipping through cracks.

Where I lead
you follow.
Unless I follow
and you lead.
Unless we travel side by side
hand in hand
or
foot in foot.

Soft-toed and sure-stepping
drawing the silhouette of friendship
on shifting sands and soils
you come and go
leaving no trace
except the wonder of life.

Wherever I go
I am never alone.

Here we are.
